“To get the full value of joy you must have someone to divide it with.” ― Mark Twain

At Our Lady of Perpetual Help, volunteers are an integral part of our community. They add color, vibrancy, and joy to the lives of our residents! If you enjoy spending time with seniors, then our volunteer program may be just what you’re looking for.

We welcome adults and young people*, students, local groups, and pet owners (animals must be socialized) to volunteer. Volunteers can come once or routinely, on weekdays or weekends―we are flexible!

How can you help?

Here are just a few of the activities that our volunteers enjoy doing with our residents:

  • Reminiscing one-on-one with our residents
  • Reading and storytelling (This can also include small children practicing their reading skills! Our residents love kids!)
  • Arts and crafts
  • Playing games (ex. card games, trivia, word puzzles)
  • Helping with a sing-along, karaoke, or exercise party
  • Helping facilitate a resident social such as the Ladies’ Tea, Men’s Lunch Bunch, or ice cream socials
  • Giving hand massages and manicures
  • Gardening
  • Leading a walking club
  • Simply visiting with them!

Whether you’re a part of a group (small or large) or perform on your own, we are always looking for entertainers.

  • Music, to include vocal or instrumental performances
  • Theater, such as short skits or school groups practicing a play
  • Dance

We also welcome students, teachers, or experts in a specific topic to give lectures or lead discussions on subjects such as travel, history, or current events.

These are just a few of the many ways you can participate in the lives of our residents. If you have an idea for an activity or a talent that you’d like to share and you don’t see it listed above, just let us know. We are always open to new ideas that our residents might enjoy.

Ready to get involved? All individuals wanting to volunteer must first contact and then meet the Director of Life Enrichment, Charlotte Mogelinski. Call 757-495-4211 or email her at cmogelinski@ourladyperpetualhelp.com.
